Daniel McNeill stomps his way onto DoD Wall of Honour
Midday on Saturday 18th November saw ex-squaddie Daniel McNeill take his final steps along the southern coastline of Dumfries & Galloway and over the finish line on Sandyhills beach, completing his 9,000-mile march around the coast of Great Britain, and raising over £30,000 for the Soldiers’, Sailors’, and Airmen’s Families Association (SSAFA) in the process.
Daniel, who hails from the town of Dalbeattie in Dumfries & Galloway, began his epic trek in 2021 and described it as “the experience of a lifetime”.
A former Gunner with the Royal Artillery regiment, coast-stomping island-hopper McNeill recorded his charitable footsteps daily, logging his videos on his Facebook channel, and gaining an amazing 9,7oo followers along the way.
The best moments of his journey were the “peaceful, tranquil, blissful” places along the route, he told DoD. “A memory that stands out the most had to be Fair Isle, an island between Orkney and Shetland. I was there for two weeks. And I really enjoyed myself.” It was not all plain sailing, however – “I snapped the tendons in my ankle when I was walking down a dirt track in Orkney. To top things off, I ended up with food poisoning later that day.”
Anyone following Daniel’s exploits would agree that his updates have been a breath of fresh air amongst the incessant fear and propaganda beamed into the public’s consciousness daily by the mainstream media. And it is indeed our pleasure to announce that, while we were following Daniel on his journey, as a supporter of Declaration of Dumfries and our mission, Daniel was also following our activities: “In 2023, it’s harder than ever to find truth amongst all the media that portray their own personal agendas and biases. I think the DoD is a great newsletter for people that are seeking truth.”
We are pleased to have him on board, and I’m sure our readers would agree that there is no-one more deserving of a place on the Declaration of Dumfries Wall of Honour.
So, what now for Daniel McNeill, Conqueror of the British Isles? “I will be hibernating throughout the winter, and then I will start something new when the Easter comes. Possibly motivational speaking and creating my own own business.”
Declaration of Dumfries salutes Daniel and his incredible achievement, and we wish him every success in his future endeavours. Whatever the remarkable Albion inspiration decides to do with his life from this point onwards, one thing is for sure –
Just like his incredible journey around Britain: it will be epic.
Well deserved! What an inspiration! There are so many positives to focus on.
Fantastic achievement Daniel. It’s great to see that you are a follower of DOD! Keep up the great work after a well earned break of course.
Absolutely brilliant Daniel. What an amazing achievement – and also well done DofD for creating this well deserved accolade and letting us all know about Daniel. Thank you Mike.
